Overview:

In September 2024, through a cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Rural Health Redesign Center (RHRC) was awarded $1.5 million per year for three years to provide targeted technical assistance to rural healthcare providers throughout the Appalachian Region.

How We Helped:

Alongside the RHRC team, we crafted a successful grant application that positioned RHRC as a trusted partner capable of helping rural providers identify operational improvements and expand critical service lines. With only one cooperative agreement to be awarded, the application was highly competitive. The proposal emphasized practical, provider-focused support tailored to the unique challenges facing Appalachian healthcare systems.

Our team also helped with initial implementation of the project upon award, as well as provided ongoing support for grant reporting and compliance requirements. We continue to support RHRC with their grant writing and RFP needs.

Impact:

Through this funding, the RHRC works with up to six healthcare organizations per year to:

• Assess their financial status, quality indicators, gaps in service, and more to plan for actionable change.

• Identify areas of need and improvement that would better help meet local needs, build capacity, and maximize quality of care.

• Support the implementation of best practice recommendations.

• Provide start-up funding to support the implementation of new service lines.
