Overview:

In August 2022, the Health Resources and Services Administration and Northern Border Region Commission (NBRC) awarded the Rural Health Redesign Center (RHRC) a $1.9 million/year, three-year cooperative agreement to provide technical assistance to rural communities and healthcare providers in the Northern Border Region (Northern New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine).

How We Helped:

We worked closely with the RHRC to write a grant application that highlighted their strategy to enhance access to care, recruit and retain providers, and assist rural hospitals and clinics in implementing healthcare value initiatives. With only one cooperative agreement to be awarded, the application was highly competitive. By framing the project’s scope, approach, and anticipated outcomes effectively, the proposal secured critical funding for the region.

Our team also helped with initial implementation of the project upon award, as well as provided ongoing support for grant reporting and compliance requirements. We continue to support RHRC with their grant writing and RFP needs.

Impact:

This award supported stronger rural healthcare systems, improved access to care—including behavioral health—and more sustainable hospital operations in Northern Border communities. The RHRC received supplemental funding in subsequent years to be sub-granted to local projects in the region.
